48k crore investment in renewable energy to create 11,000 jobs | Lucknow News โ€“ Times of India

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh is embracing the modern renewable energywith private companies promising Rs 47,981 crore investment in hydroelectric and solar power units with pumped storage. This investment is expected to generate 9,470 MW of energy and create employment opportunities for around 10,940 people.
Three companies (Torrent Power Limited, Greenko Group and JSW Energy Limited) will set up pumped storage hydroelectric units in Sonbhadra district. Additionally, TP Renewable Microgrid (Tata Power Limited) will set up microgrid solar power plants in villages across the state.
Earlier, the UP government approved eight pumped storage hydropower (PSH) units, including six at Sonbhadra, two at Mirzapur and one at Chandauli. These eight PSH units are expected to generate 13,250 MW of power.
Water for the Sonbhadra project will come from the Sone river, while the Mirzapur and Chandauli projects will use water from the Adwa and Musakhand dams, respectively. PSH stands out as a triple threat in the renewable energy game. First, it is surprisingly affordable and features low upfront and storage costs that make it an affordable option for broader adoption. Secondly, it earns the nickname โ€œwater batteryโ€ for being incredibly green with minimal impact on the environment. Lastly, this project uses a closed-loop pump storage system, ensuring that any potential environmental footprint is further minimized. In short, PSH offers a cost-effective, sustainable and responsible solution to our energy needs.
Significantly, Greenko's 3,600 MW PSH plant at Sonbhadra promises to be a game-changer, positively impacting nearby villages. Furthermore, the 1,750 MW Torrent Power plant will also contribute to the development of the region through CSR activities.
Overall, this project represents a significant step towards the adoption of renewable energy in Uttar Pradesh, offering both environmental and economic benefits.
