AB 1228 Fast Food Council



















On September 28, 2023, Governor Newsom signed into law AB 1228, fast food restaurant industry legislation that increases the minimum hourly wage for certain fast food workers to $20 effective April 1, 2024. Additionally, the legislation establishes a Fast Food Council within the DIR to establish a minimum hourly wage for fast food restaurant employees. and develop standards, rules and regulations for the fast food industry. Information about public meetings will be posted on this page in 2024.

The AB 1228 Fast Food Council will hold the first meeting with discussions related to the mandate of AB 1228.

Questions or comments will be timed at the end of the meeting or can be directed to FastFoodCouncil@dir.ca.gov.


The Council will meet in accordance with the Bagley-Keene Open Meetings Act. Council members are expected to travel. Per diems and travel expenses may be issued subject to conditions and limits to members of the advisory committee.
