The enormous amounts of water that fell on Volos during storm 'Elias' caused the Krafsidonas torrent to overflow on Thursday, marking the second time the torrent overflowed in the last 20 days.

Another torrent east of Volos, the Anavros, also caused significant problems, which overflowed at a point near Ag. Dimitriou Street and whose waters flooded the areas of Nea Dimitriada.

Serious problems were also reported on the Volos ring road, while road access to Agria, Ano and Kato Lechonia and all of southern Pelion remained cut off due to the complete destruction of the road to Agria by a third torrent.

There are currently several military vehicles on the streets of Volos, while the Hellenic Navy landing ship "Ikaria" was also in the port to provide support and assistance if necessary.

In addition, a total of 18 people who were rescued by firefighters after being trapped in their homes during Wednesday night's storm, spent the night on the "Super Star" ferry in the port of Volos. As of Thursday morning, there were still five people on board the ship.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Shipping announced that all morning trips of the ferries "Super Star" and "Express Skiathos", as well as the flying dolphin "Erato", were cancelled. Northeast winds of up to 6 degrees on the Beaufort scale were blowing in the area.
