American Sloane Stephens acquired a torrent of offended messages on social media, along with racist and sexist abuse, following her third spherical loss to Angelique Kerber at the US Open, named the 2017 match champion on Saturday.
Stephens, who is black, mentioned that she received more than 2,000 messages of abuse after Friday's 5-7 6-2 6-3 loss, Reuters reports.
"It is very expensive to learn messages like these, however I will send a couple of them so that you can see what it is like after a loss," he wrote in an Instagram story.
What he adopted was a collection of racist and sexist messages directed at Stephens, 28.
"Such hatred is so exhausting and it by no means ends," he said.
โThis isn't talked about enough, however, it really sucksโฆ I'm glad I have people in my corner to help me. I am selecting constructive vibrations over harmful ones.
"I choose to point out happiness here, but it's not all the time smiles and roses."
Stephens, who has been classified as excessive as the world number three, then posted messages of support she received from her staff after the loss, the people she knew as "the only ones who matter."
"Yesterday was very powerful, however let me say that I like the way Sloane is progressing and where we are headed," read a message.
