Area where children play covered in human waste as warning is issued to parents

People are cautioned to avoid a recreation area used by children after a sewage leak.

The area near the BMX Parklands track in Ellesmere Harbor, and parts of the falls themselves, was covered with human waste and dirty water.

A local resident told ECHO that the smell was "vile" and that she had contacted the council with concerns about children playing in the area.

A United Utilities spokesperson said: "Our engineers are cleaning up on site after removing a blockage from a culvert that caused it to overflow at Parklands in Ellesmere Port. The BMX track was also cleaned and disinfected.
