Atmospheric instability triggers devastating storms across Jordan

Since Sunday morning, a state of atmospheric instability has affected many regions and governorates of Jordan, causing thunderstorms, dust storms and hail. The heavy rains caused a rise in the water level and the formation of torrential downpours, particularly in the south of the country.

In Aqaba governorate, a vehicle was swept away by a large torrent, killing one person, while another individual was rescued, a security source said Monday.

In Zarqa Governorate, the Aw Zighan area of โ€‹โ€‹the Hashemite District witnessed powerful torrential rains that led to the loss of a child and the swamping of seven vehicles, according to the Roya correspondent.

Amman, the capital city, experienced extensive damage and destruction of vehicles due to heavy rain and hail associated with the storm.

The Public Safety Directorate issued new warnings advising people not to approach or attempt to cross streams, torrents and valleys, either on foot or in vehicles.
