โ€˜Baroness Braโ€™ Michelle Mone โ€˜hires celebrity bodyguardโ€™ after receiving torrents of abuse and โ€˜acid attack threatโ€™ amid investigation into her role in the Covid PPE scandal

Baroness Michelle Mone reportedly hired a bodyguard used by celebrities after receiving torrents of abuse and an apparent acid attack threat amid the investigation into his role in the PPE contracts scandal.

The conservative peer, 52, has received abuse on social media and has had hate mail sent to her workplace and home on the Isle of Man, where she lives with her husband Doug Barrowman.

Speaking of the abuse, a friend of Mone told the Times: "It's been totally horrendous." They added: "It has affected his mental health."

Mone and Barrowman have been interrogated under caution by agents of the National Center Crime Agency (NCA), which has been investigating the couple over allegations of bribery and fraud. Both deny the accusations.

The couple have been advised for the past 18 months by Will Geddes, a top security consultant who is said to charge up to ยฃ3,000 a day.

Geddes has been hired by royal families and is believed to have been called by Mone after she received threats for lying about her connections to PPE Medpro.

PPE Medpro, a consortium led by Barrowman, was awarded government contracts worth more than ยฃ200m to supply personal protective equipment after Lady Mone recommended it to ministers.

Contracts to provide the NHS with masks and gowns were awarded without the need for a public tender after Mr Mone lobbied ministers.

The Baroness did not declare any potential conflict of interest to the Lords and denied that she intended to benefit financially.

In a YouTube film posted last December, Mone and her husband admitted their connections to the company. The film mentions messages threatening an acid attack on Mone.

MailOnline has contacted Mone and Geddes for comment.
