BBB warns of TikTok cryptocurrency scams

WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) - Investment scams have increased over the past two years and experts want you to know what to watch out for.

As TikTok's popularity continues to grow, so do cryptocurrency scams.

Imagine browsing TikTok and you see a video of someone holding a big wad of cash. They tell you that they made that money investing in cryptocurrencies in just a few days. That investor says he can help you make that money for a modest fee.

These cryptocurrency scams can be tempting, but the Better Business Bureau recommends doing your research on the scammer, not giving in to scare tactics, and treating every digital wallet like cash.

Simply put, be smart with your money.

โ€œTikTok is actually very common. It seems to be very common among the younger generation, and they are often the ones scammers like to target. You, take them out from the beginning. Get people who may not have had a lot of experience,โ€ said Lisa Schiller, BBB media relations.

These scammers will try to scam people for as long as possible to get as much money as possible. All the money you send will end up in your pockets with no return on your investment.

BBB also encourages people to report scams to their Scam tracking website. You can also file a report if you have the name and address of the scammer.
