By any measure, crypto fatigue has set in. Prices have stagnated, trading volume has plummeted and almost no one outside the industry seems to care about cryptocurrencies anymore. Bitcoin searches on Google are down 87% from their peak in 2021. Searches for โcryptocurrencyโ are down 96%.
Cryptocurrency trading "has been as boring as watching paint dry," says Dave Weisberger, director of cryptocurrency trading platform CoinRoutes.
The lethargy has a few explanations, one of which is a new technological toy, AI, stealing the limelight from cryptocurrencies. Companies like (ticker: BLACK), (COIN) and Fidelity Investments are moving forward and there is great hope that a Bitcoin exchange-traded fund to be approved soon, generating enthusiasm. But it may take much more than an ETF to revitalize Bitcoin and the broader crypto economy.
