Black Capitol Police officer reveals โ€˜torrent of racial epithetsโ€™ from Jan. 6 insurrectionists

US Capitol Police Officer Harry Dunn told the Select Committee of the US House of Representatives on the January 6 attack that the insurgents repeatedly called it the "N" word during the assault on the Capitol. Witnesses testified today that some of the domestic terrorists were even carrying Back the Blue flags that day.

โ€œMore and more insurgents were coming to the area through the President's Lobby near the roundabout and some were wearing MAGA hats and shirts that said 'Trump 2020'. I told them to just get out of the Capitol. And his answer was: 'Nobody. This is our house. President Trump invited us here. We are here to stop the theft. Joe Biden is not the president, nobody voted for Joe Biden. '"

"I am a law enforcement officer," Dunn, a 13-year veteran of the force told Committee members, "and I do my best to keep politics out of my work. But in this circumstance, I replied, 'Well I voted for Joe Biden. Doesn't my vote count? Am I a nobody? '

โ€œThat sparked a torrent of racial epithets. A woman in a pink MAGA shirt yelled, 'Hey guys, this black voted for Joe Biden.' Then the crowd, maybe around 20 people joined in yelling, 'Boo, you fucking black. No one had ever, ever called me an idiot, while wearing the uniform of a Capitol Police officer. In the days after the attempted insurrection, other black officers shared their own stories of racial abuse with me on January 6. One officer told me that never in his 40 years of life had he been called an idiot to his face. and that streak ended on January 6. "
