The Mounties say charges have been approved against a suspect after $10 million in cryptocurrency was stolen during a home invasion in north Richmond.

In September 2022, police allege that several suspects with weapons forced their way into the home, some suspects posed as police officers, and a man and woman who lived in the home were assaulted, tied up, and held for many hours. hours.

The suspects fled with the cryptocurrency, along with some luxury items, RCMP say.

Additionally, police say the victims suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

"Our Serious Crimes Unit and our Economic Crimes Unit have been working on this investigation for over a year," said Richmond RCMP Chief Supt. Dave Chauhan. โ€œThey have done an exceptional job with the investigation, which led to an arrest on many very serious charges and the recovery of most of the stolen $10 million in cryptocurrency. Additionally, investigators have provided ongoing support to the victims of this heinous act.โ€

A total of 11 charges have been approved against Jin Da Xing, 34, of Richmond, including breaking and entering, robbery with a weapon, unlawful confinement and assault with a weapon.

RCMP say Xing remains in custody and awaits trial.
