China issues alert for mountain torrents

BEIJING, Sept. 1 (Xinhua) -- China on Friday evening issued orange and yellow alerts for mountain torrents in parts of the country's southern and southwestern regions.

From 8 p.m. Friday to 8 p.m. Saturday, mountain torrents are highly likely to occur in the southwestern part of Guangdong, according to the orange alert jointly issued by the Ministry of Water Resources and the China Meteorological Administration.

The two departments also issued a yellow alert for mountain torrents in some areas of western Yunnan and southwestern Guangdong.

Localities have been advised to strengthen real-time monitoring and flood warning, and prepare for possible evacuation among measures to avoid risks.
