Chinaโ€™s Dalian City issues red alert for mountain torrents

DALIAN, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) -- Dalian, a port city in northeast China's Liaoning Province, on Saturday issued a red alert for mountain torrents, the highest level in China's warning system, as heavy rainstorms are forecast to hit the city.

Mountain torrents are likely to occur in some townships of the areas of Zhuanghe, Wafangdian and Pulandian, according to the city's water authorities.

The city's meteorological center said heavy rains are expected to batter the city from Saturday evening to Sunday evening, with rainfall set to reach 250 mm to 350 mm in some mountainous areas of Zhuanghe.

Zhuanghe's flood control and drought relief headquarters raised its flood control emergency response from Level III to Level II at 7 p.m. Saturday, and required the timely expansion of resident evacuation plans in threatened areas.
