Congress Asks Government To Clarify Stand On Cryptocurrency, PMโ€™s Twitter Hack

New Delhi:

Congressional leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury on Monday demanded that the government clarify its position on cryptocurrency, saying that hacking of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Twitter username in connection with the issue raised serious security concerns.

Raising the issue during Zero Hour on Lok Sabha, Chowdhury said that if the Prime Minister's Twitter account was not secure, how can the Twitter accounts of an ordinary person be secure?

โ€œAt a time when the government is considering banning cryptocurrencies, the prime minister's control of Twitter is compromised and tweets are posted about the government accepting cryptocurrency as legal tender and having bought 500 Bitcoins to distribute to citizens . This is the biggest security problem facing the nation, "said the leader of Congress.

He demanded that the government clarify in Parliament whether it plans to recognize the cryptocurrency.

Chowdhury also said the government should make a statement in Parliament to explain how the prime minister's Twitter account was compromised twice in the past two years.

โ€œIf control of the Prime Minister's Twitter is compromised twice in two years, how can we be sure of the nation's security? India's security is threatened. The government should make a statement in the House, โ€he said.

Chowdhury's comments came a day after the prime minister's Twitter account was briefly compromised, but was quickly restored.
