According to the latest data, traffic from torrent trackers has noticeably increased in Russia. In the second week of March alone, it increased by 21%.
The sharp rise in interest in torrenting in Russia comes against the background of the fact that a number of services and companies have left the country's market. This happened due to the sanctions imposed by several countries and at the initiative of the companies themselves after Russia unleashed a war in Ukraine.
Russian media reports on the increased interest in torrenting with links to one of the largest telecom operators in the country. According to him, during the past week
traffic to torrent trackers has increased by 21% compared to December 2021, and the data flow of video game distribution platforms has fallen by almost 30%.
In the social network โVKontakteโ the traffic grew by 95% (in the context of the closure of social networks Facebook and Instagram and the recognition of Meta as an extremist organization), in RuTube it did not change in the first half of March.
According to some experts, the growth of traffic on torrent trackers may be associated with DDoS attacks, which, with the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, reach all Russian sites. Representatives of ZMI's p>RuTracker were told that for the rest of the hour the bulk registration of Chinese IPs was protected, moreover, the registration in rich vipads was for additional email from Russian domains, and behind obvious signs of mail from Russian domains, automated scripts. As a result, the maydanchik temporarily blocked access from Chinese and Russian IPs, and the record was re-attached.
RuTracker said that they will not resume work in Russiaeven if it is unlocked by Roskomnadzor.

Meanwhile, experts consider movies and video games to be the most popular torrent content, as legal access to them on many sites is currently completely impossible. Torrent site traffic volumes are expected to continue to grow.
Let us remember that Netflix, Spotify, Megogo and other similar companies and services have left the country. They were joined by Hollywood companies and video game creators. As a result, Russians cannot legally purchase music, movies, games, series, and other entertainment content.
Previously, it was proposed in Russia to legalize piracy and abolish punishment for the use of unlicensed software and other products. Interestingly, the Russian experts themselves are not entirely enthusiastic about that idea.
As Vasily Ovchinnikov, adviser to the head of the Russian Foundation for the Development of Information Technologies, put it, โFrom the moment the idea of โโlegalizing piracy in any of its forms appeared, we said that this is a dead endโ.
