Crypto traders fight in WBS Dubai for Amir Khan’s charity boxing match


The World Blockchain Summit in Dubai hosted an exhibition boxing match between top cryptocurrency traders and influencers for the WBC Crypto Belt. The fights were supported by a charity event, which included an auction for memorabilia that included digital currency assets and non-fungible tokens (NFTs).

What started as a conversation for a friendly match with a small audience, featured two-time world boxing champion Amir Khan and the Super Boxing League (SBL) as the organizer, in association with crypto exchange ByBit and the Council. World Boxing.

The event saw friendly boxing matches between prominent Crypto Twitter entrepreneurs like Luke Martin (@VentureCoinist) vs. Louis (@barneytheboi) and RookieXBT (@RookieXBT) vs. loomlock.eth (@loomdart). The winners of the events were Louis and RookieXBT respectively, and RookieXBT took the WBC Crypto Champion belt.

According to a conversation with Cointelegraph at the WBS press conference, crypto traders turned fighters have been training for months, day after day, "no parties, no drinks, just hard work." Additionally, the boxing match attracted many crypto enthusiasts from around the world who participated in the charity event, which will be donated to the Amir Khan Foundation.

Khan too shared his enthusiasm for SBL's involvement with the crypto community:

"By partnering with cryptocurrencies, we will further increase our effort to reach like-minded groups who believe in innovation and transformation."

In an ongoing attempt to showcase Dubai as the future hub of blockchain, on September 22, financial regulators in the UAE officially approved cryptocurrency trading in the Dubai Free Economic Zone.

A Cointelegraph report from Sept. 23 shows that the Dubai World Trade Center Authority (DWTCA) signed an agreement with the UAE's Securities and Commodities Authority (SCA) to allow regulated crypto-asset trading within the DWTCA free zone.

Citing the development, SCA Acting Executive Director Maryam Al Suwaidi stated that "DWTCA seeks to support companies backed by blockchain and crypto technologies."
