CryptoCurrency: Abuja Facebook Scammer In Prison Custody

A certain Canice Agabi has been taken into custody in prison for cryptocurrency and Facebook scams.

Agabi was brought before Judge AY Shafa of the Gwagwalada-Abuja FCT High Court by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Abuja Zonal Command on a charge of one count bordering on impersonation.

Agabi, sometime in 2021 he came forward as a US citizen and created an Instagram account with the username 'Randy Sylvester'.

With this fake account he was able to make a United States citizen Anne Fuscelaro walk away with $1,000 (one thousand US dollars).

He had tricked her into believing that he was interested in Bitcoin Investment and that she could get a good return on investment by investing in his cryptocurrency company, Prime Cash Investment, a fact that he knew to be false.

The offense is contrary to Section 321 of the Penal Code Act, Federation (Abuja) Laws, 1990 and punishable under Section 324 of the same Actโ€ to which he pleaded guilty.

Judge Shafa found guilty and sentenced Agabi to three months imprisonment with a fine option of N200,000 (two hundred thousand naira).

The convict had previously repaid $200 (Two Hundred US Dollars) and is required to pay an additional sum of N623,000 (Six Hundred Twenty Three Thousand Naira) in restitution to the Federation Account.

Judge Shafa also ordered that his Samsung Note 10 mobile phone that he used to commit the crime be burned on the court premises.
