Department of Labor announces approximately $35M in additional funding available for 2nd round of Building Pathways to Infrastructure Jobs grants

WASHINGTON โ€“ The Department of Labor today announced the availability of approximately $35 million in funding through the second round of Road Construction Grants to Infrastructure Jobs prepare workers for the high-paying infrastructure jobs that the Biden-Harris administrationโ€™s โ€œInvesting in Americaโ€ agenda is creating.

Managed by department Employment and Training AdministrationThe grants enable public-private partnerships to develop, implement and expand worker-centered programs that train people for in-demand jobs in advanced manufacturing, information technology, and professional, scientific and technical services occupations.

โ€œThe Biden-Harris administration's historic investments in infrastructure and clean energy projects are creating hundreds of thousands of good jobs across the country,โ€ said Undersecretary of Employment and Training Josรฉ Javier Rodrรญguez. โ€œThe Building Pathways to Infrastructure Jobs grant program helps honor the Biden-Harris administration's commitment to ensuring that all workers, including women, people of color, veterans, and those historically left behind, have access to the training and skills needed to fill the Good jobs are being created.โ€

In September 2023, the department announced nearly $94 million in grants awarded to 34 recipients in 25 states and the District of Columbia in the first round of grants to build roads to infrastructure jobs.

The second round of funding announced today requires applicants to choose one of the following pathways:

  • Development Pathway: Establishes local and regional partnerships to implement new sectoral training programs in infrastructure-related sectors.
  • Expansion Pathway: Expands an existing successful local or regional training partnership model in a specific infrastructure-related sector to the state or national level.

Lead applicants selected in the first round will not be eligible to apply as lead applicants for the second round. They are eligible to apply as partners in this round.

The additional funding announced today will continue to focus on designing workforce training programs that incorporate diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility, create pathways in infrastructure-related industries, and leverage Principles of good employment as described by the Departments of Labor and Commerce.
