Ellen DeGeneres shares footage of raging torrent as storm hits star-studded Montecito

Ellen Degeneres shared an alarming video of her Montecito home on Monday (January 9) when heavy flooding hit the celebrity-filled area.

Residents of the city, home to stars like prince harry Y Meghan Marklethey were placed under an evacuation order as more severe weather conditions were expected through Monday night.

Sharing a selfie video on Instagram, DeGeneres showed followers a creek next to her home, which normally "never flows, never," but in the clip there was a raging torrent of brown water. "It's probably around nine feet [high]โ€, commented the television presenter.

โ€œWe need to be kinder to Mother Nature,โ€ DeGeneres warned, โ€œbecause Mother Nature is not happy with us.โ€

In the caption to her post, DeGeneres explained that while Montecito is under mandatory evacuation, she was advised to "shelter in place" since her home was on higher ground.

The star also noted that the storm fell on the fifth anniversary of the 2018 mudslides that hit Montecito. killing 23 people and destroying many houses.

Santa Barbara emergency officials have issued a shelter-in-place warning for those who have not yet evacuated, advising them to go to the innermost room or to higher ground.

Severe weather is forecast for California this week after days of heavy rain, snow and damaging winds, increasing the potential for flooding, river surges and mudslides in already saturated soils.
