Elon Musk reaffirms AI’s potential to destroy civilization

As tech giants around the world work to materialize the idea of having a generator artificial intelligence (AI) to help humans in their daily lives, the risk of nascent technology going rogue remains imminent. Considering this possibility, Tesla and the head of Twitter Elon Musk reminded people of the potential of AI to destroy civilization.

March 15th, Musk's plan to create a new AI startup it came about after the businessman reportedly assembled a team of AI researchers and engineers. However, Musk continues to highlight the destructive potential of AI, just like any other technology, if it falls into the wrong hands or is developed with malicious intent.

According to Musk, AI can be dangerous. In an interview with FOX, he said that AI can be more dangerous than mismanaged aircraft design or production maintenance, for example. While he acknowledged the low probability, he stated:

"Small as it is, you can consider that probability, but it's not trivial: it has the potential to destroy civilization."

When Crypto Twitter picked up the discussion, Musk followed up with strong support for his statement:

"Anyone who thinks this risk is 0% is an idiot."

On the other hand, tech entrepreneurs like Bill Gates continue to be more optimistic about AI and the positive impacts it can bring to humanity.
