Elon Musk reportedly plans AI start-up to rival ChatGPT-maker OpenAI

tech entrepreneur Elon Musk is reported to be developing plans to create a artificial intelligence (AI) startup to compete with the maker of ChatGPT, OpenAI, one of the most popular generative artificial intelligence companies that he co-founded in 2015.

The disclosure came after reports emerged that Musk is assembling a team of AI researchers and engineers, according to the Financial Times. While Musk left the OpenAI board in 2018, the launch of the AI โ€‹โ€‹startup will position Musk among other tech giants like Google and Microsoft to build next-generation AI.

The report suggests that Musk is in talks with existing investors from SpaceX and Tesla regarding investments in the upcoming artificial intelligence company. โ€œA lot of people are investing in it. . . it's real and they're excited about it," the FT source added.

The alleged findings complement a recent report on April 12, in which an anonymous source revealed that Musk purchased nearly 10,000 graphics processing units to drive Twitter's AI initiatives.

On March 9, Musk incorporated a company called X (X.AI), listing himself as the sole director of the company. In addition, Musk also changed Twitter's name to X Corp in company filings, as part of his plans to create an "everything app" under the "X" brand.

Instead, Musk, along with more than 2,600 tech leaders and researchers, signed an open letter urging a temporary pause in further AI development on March 30, fearing "profound risks to society and humanity."
