Essex Police respond to racist abuse of England stars โ€“ saying all reports will be investigated

Essex Police issued a statement in response to a torrent of racist abuse faced by Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Bukayo Saka after England's final Euro 2020 defeat.

The abusive messages flooded the players' social media accounts., with widespread condemnation including England's manager Gareth Southgate, the prime minister and the Duke of Cambridge.

Now Essex Police have issued a warning to anyone posting vile hateful messages.

Superintendent Richard Melton, Essex Police Force Leader for Hate Crimes, Hostility and Antisocial Behavior, said:

โ€œWe, like many people in Essex, have been appalled at the racial abuse directed at England players Marcus Rashford, Jaydon Sancho and Bukayo Saka after the Euro 2020 final on Sunday. Although the result was not what we expected, it is absolutely no excuse for the appalling behavior that we have seen across the country.

He added: "If you do not want to report your experiences to us directly, or do not want to give your details, you can also go to www.report-it.org.uk to do so."
