EV Drive Days coming to Canberra

Published on 09/10/2023

Canberrans will have the opportunity to test drive an electric vehicle (EV) and find out everything they need to know about owning an electric vehicle at the NRMA EV Drive Day event on November 10-11.

Minister for Water, Energy and Emissions Reduction, Shane Rattenbury, said this event will give Canberrans the opportunity to discover everything they need to know about owning and driving an electric vehicle (EV), all in one only place.

"One of the biggest barriers for new electric vehicle owners, or for people considering the transition to an electric vehicle, is the uncertainty that comes with new technology," Minister Rattenbury said.

โ€œEvents like NRMA EV Drive Day give Canberrans the opportunity to talk to experts about buying, charging and operating electric vehicles throughout their lifespan. There's no better way to get a real feel for an electric vehicle than to get behind the wheel and see exactly how it drives.

โ€œThere are up to 600 spaces available to test drive an electric vehicle with a defensive driving instructor by your side to give you all the support and resources you need to test the limits on a controlled race track.

โ€œThere will be a wide variety of electric vehicle models available for test drives to suit everyone from young families to car enthusiasts, including vehicles from Tesla, BMW, Hyundai, Nissan and more.

โ€œEven if you're not driving an EV that day, there will be plenty of other providers, activities and experts to chat to and get advice. There will also be children's activities for the whole family to have fun and there will be plenty of food and drink available.

โ€œThe Sustainable Canberra Expo on October 13-14 is another upcoming opportunity where Canberrans will be able to test drive an electric vehicle and talk to industry experts and leaders, electric vehicle owners and retailers.

โ€œTransport emissions account for more than 60 per cent of emissions in the ACT. As we continue on our Path to electrification and net zero emissions by 2045, events like these help us equip Canberrans with the tools and knowledge needed to transition to an electric vehicle at the right time for them โ€.

The NRMA Drive Days event will be held at the Sutton Road Training Center in Majura from 1pm to 4pm on Friday 10th.th November and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday the 11thth November 2023. Free parking will be available on site.

The event is free to attend, but registration is required to test drive electric vehicles.

The NRMA EV Drive Days event is a partnership between the ACT Government, the NSW Government and NRMA.

Quotes attributable to Kate Lundy, NRMA Board Director

โ€œThe NRMA supports and encourages the transition to an electric future and EV Drive Days provide a great opportunity to talk to the community about the benefits of electric vehicles.

โ€œWe have seen the number of Australians purchasing electric vehicles continue to increase, particularly in the ACT, which has the highest electric vehicle ownership per capita.

โ€œAs Australians learn more about owning and operating electric vehicles, many are considering electric vehicles for their future transportation.โ€
