OTTAWA - A former diplomat and cabinet minister denounces anti-Asian racism directed at a Canadian senator whom he calls the spokesman for China.

Chris Alexander says he has serious concerns that Senator Yuen Pau Woo retweeted a Toronto Star column that suggested Canada helped the United States take Huawei executive Meng Wanzhou "hostage" as part of the trade war and technology with China.

He says parroting the line propagated by the Chinese communist regime that Meng's arrest was politically motivated, even though Canada followed the rule of law.

But Alexander says he was not implying that Woo or any MP has voluntarily become a mouthpiece for a foreign government.
