The incident took place on Saturday, July 24, just as the city's population of 120,000 was swelling to nearly one million.
They had gathered for Eid al-Adha and the over-consumption of the bloated population during the nine-day Islamic holiday is blamed for overflowing sewage. Hurriyet reports.
Footage shot by a tourist shows gallons of dark-colored liquid gushing out of two exposed plastic rainwater drainage pipes and mixing with the blue of the Aegean Sea.
Tourists soon left the beach in droves, as they had noticed the sea change color and the bad smell was beginning to come out of the pipes.
The beach was full of people seeking the sun at the time, and most likely did not initially know that the sea was filling with human waste near where they were bathing.
A second video shows a broken sewer pipe right next to a stall completely flooding a series of residential roads with a dirty brown liquid.
The sewage that flooded the streets was then pumped into the sea after it entered the city's rainwater drainage system.
The pipeline was repaired by local authorities shortly after the rupture was reported.
Although the beach is popular with sun-seeking Brits, Turkey is currently on the UK travel red list.
Under the rules, anyone who has been to a red-listed country must be quarantined for 10 days upon returning to the UK.
