Ford unveils revamped Ranger | The West Australian

After a torrent of leaks, spy photos and reports on what the next Ford Ranger will look like, Ford has officially given its first look.

The 2022 Ford Ranger has been teased for the first time, before its introduction later this year. Ford has confirmed that the new Ranger will be in showrooms in 2022.

According to reports from CarExpert, the next-generation Ranger and Everest will be available with a plug-in hybrid powertrain.

It is unlikely to be available at launch in Australia, but the Ranger is expected to be offered with a 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine with a plug-in hybrid system.

The Ranger and Everest PHEV will produce approximately 270 kW of power and 680 Nm of torque, and are expected to deliver a combined fuel economy of 3.0 L / 100 km.

It is our understanding that the plug-in hybrid engine has not yet been used in any Ford product globally.

Currently, the Explorer PHEV uses a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 engine and an electric motor, while the Escape PHEV uses a smaller 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine in combination with an electric motor.

The Ranger and Everest are expected to launch with a revised engine range beyond the PHEV.

The entry-level engine is expected to be a 2.0-liter bi-turbo four-cylinder diesel engine, while a 3.0-liter turbo-diesel V6 will be available in high-end variants.

A 2.7-liter EcoBoost gasoline engine will likely also be included in the Ranger Raptor.

Revealed last year, the top-end Bronco is available with a second-generation 2.7-liter EcoBoost Nano turbocharged V6 engine.

CarExperte hopes that the same engine will be present in the next generation Ranger Raptor.

It produces 231 kW of power and 540 Nm and torque, mated with a 10-speed automatic transmission and permanent all-wheel drive.

That's a jump of 74 kW and 40 Nm from what the current Ranger Raptor offers.

Inside, the Ranger is expected to be offered with a 15.5-inch infotainment screen in the center of the cabin, with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

You will be joined by a 12-inch screen in front of the driver displaying speed and trip computer information.

While the vertical display is likely to be limited to the high-spec models, lower-end models are expected to incorporate a 12-inch infotainment display that also features SYNC4 and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

In addition to wireless smartphone mirroring, both the Ranger and Everest will launch with FordPass Connect, which allows owners to connect to their vehicle remotely to turn it on, monitor vehicle conditions, and perform functions such as locking and unlocking.

Our spy photos and footage suggest that Ford will also offer a surround-view camera for the first time on Ranger and Everest, with semi-autonomous parking with front and rear parking sensors expected to remain to complement the parking package.
