Following the recent confirmation that Fractal design had temporarily stopped sales of his new Torrent PC Box Due to Possible Electrical Failure with Fan Hub Controlr, it was confirmed that more details would be released about this problem, and specifically what the current owners of the case should be looking to do about it, in the very near future. - Well, after an official update, Fractal Design has now released more information about the Torrent PC case!
Fractal Design Torrent Case - Hub Driver Update!
As part of the announcement, Fractal design has confirmed the following information:
โFractal Design has an important message about the Torrent. Some reports of Fan Hubs damaged during manufacturing that could cause a short circuit have prompted us to re-evaluate the circuit board design. We remain committed to the quality of our products and the Nexus 9P Slim Fan Hub included with Torrent does not meet the standards that customers expect from us. Our development team works tirelessly to design and manufacture an updated version that will address these issues as soon as possible.
If you own a Torrent case, we ask that you unplug the Fan Hub (instructions available here) and fill out the form available here and a replacement kit will be shipped to you as soon as possible. You can still use your Torrent without the Fan Hub, but given the compromised feature set, we are also coordinating with retail partners to allow for a hassle-free refund process if you prefer not to wait for the replacement kit. We have temporarily stopped torrent sales until the Fan Hub is updated. We sincerely apologize for your inconvenience. "
What do we think?
While it is clearly disappointing that an all-new and exceptionally praised chassis design should have a problem, you must give Fractal Design credit for being exceptionally open, honest, and very willing to solve the problem as quickly as possible.
While it likely means that the Torrent case will not be available for purchase for the next few weeks, when this issue is resolved, we will still have very good things to say about it (according to our review!)
