Genesis Recalls Cars and SUVs for Fire Risk, Warns Owners to Park Outside – Consumer Reports

Vehicles recalled
• Hyundai Genesis sedans manufactured between February 21, 2014 and February 24, 2016.

• Genesis G80 sedans manufactured between March 17, 2016 and January 4, 2019

• Genesis G90 sedans manufactured between June 13, 2016 and January 22, 2019

The problem: Water could leak into the starter solenoid and cause a short circuit, which could cause a fire in the engine compartment. Owners can still drive the cars, but must park them outside and away from structures.

The solution: Genesis and Hyundai dealers will install a kit that prevents water ingress, free of charge.

How to contact the manufacturer: Owners can contact Hyundai at 855-371-9460.

NHTSA campaign number: 24V107. Hyundai's own numbers for this recall are 254(H) and 018G(G).

Check if your vehicle has an open recall: NHTSA website will tell you if your vehicle has any open recalls that need to be addressed.

If you enter your car's 17-digit vehicle identification number (VIN) on the NHTSA website and no recall appears, it means your vehicle does not currently have any open recalls. Because auto manufacturers issue recalls frequently, and for many older vehicles, we recommend checking periodically to see if your vehicle has been issued a recall.
