Genshin Impact Hydro Traveler Guide: Skills Explained

In this Genshin Impact guide, we'll break down Hydro Traveler's abilities in the game and how they will affect gameplay.

Normal Attack: Foreign Current

Deals normal physical damage to enemies. It's not something you would use constantly.

Elemental Skill: Aquacrest Saber

The Press skill launched a Torrent Surge that deals Hydro DMG, applies Hydro, and generates 3 to 4 Hydro Particles with a 10 second cooldown. This isn't much for a one-time use of the skill, so the skill requires you to use the Hold version of the elemental skill. Holding the ability locks the Hydro Traveler in a stationary location, and after a charge time, it will quickly fire Dewdrops to deal Hydro damage. The skill will then finish you off with a Torrent Surge after pressing the Hold version for 6 seconds. Finish early if you release the ability and this will still trigger the Torrent Surge. The ability has a special ICD (internal cooldown) where it can apply Hydro every 1.7 seconds to an enemy and can potentially result in up to four instances of applying Hydro to an enemy in its full 6 second duration.

Like the new Fontaine playable characters or any new upcoming Fontaine-related characters, Hydro Traveler also has new mechanics that are limited to the Nation kit. First of all, the Hydro Traveler has a Suffusion ability where if the Traveler has more than 50% HP, the damage of the Dewdrop will increase according to his maximum HP, in exchange, the Traveler will lose 4% of his maximum HP every second.

Lastly, Hydro Traveler can deal Pneuma damage, which helps inflict special effects on enemies aligned with Ousia or helps with exploration in Fontaine.

Elemental Blast: Rising Waters

The Burst releases an advancing Hydro ball, dealing Hydro damage to enemies it passes. The ball lasts 4 seconds on the field with a 20 second cooldown.

Ascension 1 Passive: Immaculate Waters

In Passive Ascension 1, up to four drops can be generated from the Hydro Traveler's Hold ability that can be collected for healing. Please note that only the Traveler can use it and pick it up to recover his HP.

Ascension 4 Passive: Clear Waters

From the passive, Torrent Surge's final hit from the Hold version of the elemental skill will deal additional damage equal to 45% of the amount of HP consumed during the infusion. The maximum total possible base damage bonuses is 5000.

Genshin Impact Hydro Traveler's Guide: Playstyle

Hydro Traveler can be played as SUB-DPS, or Main DPS role depending on how you want to play them. Since normal attacks are useless, you'll want to focus on dealing damage using his elemental ability and elemental burst. To start, use Hydro Traveler's elemental ability using the Hold version. Target selected enemies and apply Hydro DMG/apply Hydro.

Then, try to recover his burst by jumping in and out of characters to get energy particles, as the cost of the burst is 80. Once the burst is active, use his elemental burst to deal Hydro DMG. Then, he uses the Hold version of the elemental skill again. His kit is linked in a way that allows you to easily enter and exit the character to provide the Hydro application.

Final thoughts

Hydro Traveler is a rather disappointing character to use and it's obvious that the developers haven't tried to make his kit as optimal as they did with Dendro Traveler. Aside from providing the Ousia/Pneuna mechanics that are built into his kit, Hydro Traveler as of now is not a great or viable unit to use in your roster. Their Elemental Skill keeps them in a stationary position where you cannot release your Skill, allowing them enough time to Interrupt and they have no Interrupt Resistance.
