IISER Berhampur awards degrees to 101 students | Education

As many as 101 students from the Indian Institute of Scientific Education and Research (IISER) Berhampur, who fainted, were awarded the BS-MS double degree in their third convocation held on Friday. The ceremony was held at the institute's under-construction permanent campus at Vigyanpuri in Laudigaon, near here. In addition to the dual degrees, the institute also awarded four integrated doctorates (iPhDs) and two doctorates to students who successfully completed their research work. The institute also awarded medals including the President's Gold Medal, the Principal's Gold Medal, the Competition Medal (Silver), and a few other medals to the top performing students. The major double degrees are included in Biology, Chemical Sciences, Mathematics and Physics. The second group of students, who joined the five-year Bachelor of Science in August 2018, completed all academic requirements and earned their Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees. G. Setheesh Reddy, former Secretary of Defense, attended the occasion as the main guest. He urged the students to work hard to make India self-sufficient and carry out Prime Minister Narendra Modi's call for Atma Nirbhar Bharat. Sudhir Uttamlal Mehta, Chairman of Torrent Limited and Chairman of the Institute's Board of Governors, chaired the function via virtual mode. Ashok Kumar Ganguli, director of the institute, said that a number of the institute's graduate students have been selected for doctoral programs at reputable institutions across the country and abroad. IISER Berhampur was established in 2016 by the central government and is the youngest institute among seven IISERs across the country.
