Improve your digital confidence by attending Digital Hub sessions

The start of Get Online week on Monday 16 October 2023 presents the ideal opportunity for North Kesteven residents to improve their digital skills and online confidence by attending one of the free Digital Hub sessions.

Designed to increase people's confidence in operating in a more digital world (with emailing friends, online shopping and using smartphones, for example), they take place every week; currently in Waddington, Sleaford, Ruskington, Metheringham, Heckington and Osbournby and anyone can travel to any of them.

Sessions include help and guidance with:

  • Set up and send emails
  • Video call
  • Access online services, such as NHS and council services.
  • Online shopping
  • Online Safety and Security
  • Use apps effectively
  • And much more

There is currently increased availability at the Waddington Digital Hub, which occurs weekly every Thursday, during term time, from 1pm to 2.30pm, at the Waddington Community Hub, High St Waddington LN5 9RF.

In an increasingly online world, Digital Hubs are a supportive space for people of all ages to improve their digital skills. The sessions aim to better connect people and alleviate their concerns about using digital devices and online services. The sessions are led by dedicated North Kesteven District Council staff members and volunteers, who will be able to help with a wide range of IT issues, including setting up and sending emails, accessing online services, security online and much more.

Rachael Gordon, digital hub co-ordinator at North Kesteven District Council, said:

โ€œDigital Hubs are a friendly and supportive space where anyone can come and access personalized help and advice on digital devices and/or how to connect.

โ€œLed by North Kesteven District Council staff and supported by volunteers, we can help anyone who needs it feel comfortable and confident in connecting to the internet safely.

โ€œAlthough we are not IT experts, we are all competent IT users and have helped many people with a wide range of things such as sending emails, making video calls and online shopping, to name a few.

โ€œOur ethos is about empowering people to do things for themselves, we are patient, understanding and take the time to ensure we don't take control and allow our attendees to learn at their own pace.

โ€œThose who come range from IT beginners to those who may be competent in most areas but need help with a specific program or problem or perhaps would just like to have someone around in case something goes wrong.

"If you think you or someone you know could benefit from using our service, we would love to welcome you."

If you attend, if possible, please bring your own device, whether it's a laptop, tablet or smartphone. A tablet is available to use, but your session will be more beneficial with the support of a familiar device.

North Kesteven District Councilor Sally Tarry, Executive Member with Special Responsibility for Corporate and Community Services, said:

โ€œNorth Kesteven District Council, working with other community groups and organisations, is running Digital Hub sessions across the district to offer local people a friendly, relaxed place to come and get advice on using their computers. laptops, tablets and/or mobile phones.

โ€œDigital Hub sessions are a great opportunity for people of all ages to get support and guidance on technology.โ€

The Digital Centers operate weekly during term time.
