ELD said the government continues to work closely with major social media platforms to ensure content moderation and electoral integrity plans are in place during the elections.
"ELD and other government agencies conduct regular reviews of our election processes, including learning from overseas best practices, to ensure our system and processes are effective and up to date," he added.
Last year, the ELD and other government agencies jointly issued a advisory to presidential election candidates, warning of foreign interference and cybersecurity risks.
Kasthuri, who specializes in politics in Singapore and Southeast Asia, highlighted the importance of voter education on both campaign issues and how elections work, as a bulwark against misinformation.
NUS Associate Professor Pang said that while both the government and schools have been pushing to improve digital literacy, political issues and elections "are much more difficult to address".
"We have a culture where citizens may not want or be afraid to discuss them openly," he said. "The irony is that they may become more susceptible to the conspiracy theories and falsehoods that are circulating."
