Traders will have time off from the stock market on Memorial Day after the S&P 500 (SP500) achieved a five-week winning streak, the longest since early February.
Earnings season is also coming to a close, although there is no big economic data on the calendar this week other than Friday's PCE inflation numbers. The report will be important, but the Federal Reserve will likely wait several more months to see how things go before making a decision on the next step in monetary policy.
Trading hours: As a holiday in the United States, the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq will close on Monday, although stock futures will be active. At the time of writing, Dow-linked contracts (INDU), S&P 500 (SPX) and Nasdaq 100 (US100: EN) are all hugging the flat line, holding firm in the nighttime action.
Also open... Metals and energy futures on Comex and the New York Mercantile Exchange will trade until 1 pm ET on Monday, while cryptocurrencies will be available all day, with Bitcoin being the latest to change hands. down 1.3% at $68,480.
Across the pond, the Paris and Frankfurt stock markets are open, but the London Stock Exchange is closed for a bank holiday. In Asia, trading was active in China, Hong Kong and Japan, with all local benchmark indices ending the session higher.
