Jay Slaterโ€™s mum slams vile internet trolls over disappearance โ€“ โ€˜This is not a holiday!โ€™

Jay Slater's mother has hit back at online trolls after her family received a torrent of abuse over her son's disappearance.

Debbie Duncan posted on Facebook to say her family is going through "hell" and claimed "this is not a holiday."

The 19-year-old was last seen on June 17 after leaving an Airbnb to walk back to his accommodation in Tenerife.

Spanish police called off the search just 14 days after they first searched the mountainous Teno Rural Park for the bricklayer's apprentice.

Duncan wrote: "I feel the need to post this in your group and then I will delete myself.

"I joined this group to share the positivity and love of the British public. It seems that, through no fault of my own, you have all decided to make your own decisions.

"It's so sad that I felt the need to do this. My beautiful son Jay is still missing and believe me this is not a holiday."

He added: "She came on her first holiday to Tenerife to attend the NRG music event. The mystery surrounding her disappearance may never come to light.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:

"As a family we are truly devastated. I didn't ask for publicity from the start and I didn't know that the first missing person poster had my phone number. I should have put the SOS Guardia Civil, but as I say, this was out of my control.

"Whatever decision they have in mind, I can't control it either. We're a normal working-class family from Lancashire going through hell.

"I would like to thank genuine people for their love and support during this difficult time and continue to pray that Jay is found."

Addressing the GoFundMe page, which has raised almost ยฃ50,000, Duncan continued: "For those of you who are more concerned about the GoFundMe page, I can assure you that so far it has not been used and our stay so far has been self-funded.

"I have proof of transactions and transfers to other people, but I shouldn't have to justify them.

"So you can make your own decisions. If any of you in this group have donated, I'm thankful for the other mothers out there. Please keep praying. Thank you."

It is understood Slater's family and friends will remain in Tenerife to continue searching for him.
