King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard share DJ Shadow’s ‘My Own Reality’ remix of ‘Black Hot Soup’

King Gizzard and the lizard wizard have shared a new preview of their upcoming remix album, 'Butterfly 3001', featuring a shocking drum-centric cut from Shadow dj.

Labeled the Californian trip-hopper's rewrite of 'My Own Reality', the new mix is almost entirely instrumental, carried by crunchy, digitized basses, turntable scratches, and bombastic, loose drum fills that evoke early hip-hop. 90s (think of a Beastie boys instrumental). Fittingly, the song only features one lyrics: "My own reality."

It comes alongside a cinematic video directed by John Angus Stewart, a longtime King Gizzard contributor, starring legendary Australian media figure John Safran. Filmed to emulate the visual aesthetics of the era DJ Shadow was inspired by, the clip places Safran in a variety of precarious settings as he loses himself in the music.

The new track is our third test of 'Butterfly 3001', following a remix of 'Butterfly 3000' by peaches and a dubbed version of 'Shanghai' by The Scientist. they both came next to the album ad, with a standalone release set for January 21.

As its title implies, 'Butterfly 3001' is made up of new versions of songs from King Gizzard's 18th album, 'Butterfly 3000'. "We've put off making a remix album for a long time," band member Joey Walker said of the album announcement. “Maybe it was conscious, maybe it wasn't. But it is happening now.

“That's not to say that 'Butterfly 3000' makes more sense to remix. It may seem the most obvious, but it is not. Yes, it is electronic. But so is a fridge. Have you tried dancing to 'Butterfly'? It's hard. Tie your shoelaces together. It is deceptive in its simplicity.

“But 'Butterfly 3001' expands on this. It also deviates and erases. We are honored that such esteemed people are going to work on these songs. We hope you like this album as much as we do. See you at DA CLUB !!! " '

'Butterfly 3000' arrived last June as King Gizzard's second album for 2021 (following February's 'LW'). Although it did not generate singles, each track on the album received a music video. Those included the band exploring their Melbourne home in the clip for 'Yours'and pairing 'Inner people' with animation inspired by Miyazaki.

In a three-star review of the album., NME Becky Rogers said that 'Butterfly 3000' was a disappointing affair. She noted that the band's "formulaic approach lacks surprise", because "once you're on a few tracks, you've heard it all."

In November, King Gizzard announced a massive world tour for 2022. Starting in March, the race will include dates in Europe, the UK, and North and South America.

King Gizzard is due to release their 19th album, 'Made In Timeland', sometime in 2022. It was initially supposed to be delivered free of charge at the band's titular Timeland festival on New Years Eve, however, the event was canceled a few days before due to the increase in COVID-19 cases at the band's house in Australia.
