LCD Soundsystem update fans on future, promise โ€œmaybe just singles for a whileโ€

LCD sound systemJames Murphy has posted a lengthy update for fans, delving into the thinking behind an upcoming series of mini-residencies to mark his 20th anniversary.

Last month the group announced who will play four nights in a row at Philadelphia's Franklin Music Hall from March 28-31, and four nights at Boston's Roadrunner from April 3-6.

They have also announced plans for four shows at Brixton's O2 Academy., on June 29 and from July 1 to 3. They follow a similar residency-style series of 17 shows in at Brooklyn Steel in New York City last year.

In a statement on social media outlining the plans, Murphy expressed his difficulties balancing traditional touring schedules and the recording process. โ€œYou invest a lot of time, energy and costs in 'preparing' [for a tour] that you end up touring for too long just to make it worthwhile... then you need a big break again. then you are reluctant to start all over again. it is a cycle.โ€

Reflecting on his decision to switch to a long-term residency for his Brooklyn Steel shows, he continued: โ€œWe really wanted to stop living like this, so we talked about playing some shows in New York, since most of us live here. And don't make it too big of a deal.

It's time for an update, apparently. management is asking. To a large extent, I consider playing shows/releasing music to be the...

โ€œJust playing because we like it and because we like each other. be a New York gang for a while. and maybe we'll do something like that every year. just stay in shape, if that makes sense. and just make records on the way. maybe just single for a while so no 'album panic' etc.

โ€œIt was great to play those shows, and we look forward to the rest of the shows we play this year. It's not overwhelming so I can work on new music and we can all be human beings. maybe we'll just play other places next year, moving to cities we like to play, where we're loved, etc.

Murphy also recalled the band's recent appearance on saturday night livewhich saw them perform 'Yr City's A Sucker' and 'Thrills', and they also appear in one sketch as 'guardian angels'.

โ€œA lot of us really grew up on that show. We didn't have anything new to promote, but they were totally open to us playing whatever we wanted, and we could basically take a taxi, so it was a no-brainer for us to do that. it was unbelievably fun. Who wouldn't want to do that?" Murphy said.

The post also touched on the 20th anniversary of the band's record label, DFA Records, and LCD Soundystem's debut single, 'Losing My Edge'. โ€œWe're trying to have some good DFA meetups in some places. come to see us!" Murphy said.

He also confirmed that three of his Brooklyn Steel shows, that were canceled due to a spike in coronavirus cases in December, it will not be rescheduled. โ€œWe just gave everyone their money back, because I hate the idea of โ€‹โ€‹withholding people's money for some abstract 'future' program,โ€ Murphy said. Ticket holders for those shows have been promised priority access to future LCD Soundsystem concerts.

Earlier this week, the band previewed their London shows with logos of the band's record label, DFA Records, appearing in London along with slogans that read "you are here".

It was the same image (and accompanying phrase) that was used to provide clues about last year's New York shows. News of the Brooklyn residency came just a few months after Murphy said LCDs were โ€œon a complete pauseโ€.
