ryuichi sakamotoManagement has shared a curated playlist by the late musician and songwriter, titled 'Funeral'.

Released today (May 15), his management wrote on social media: โ€œWe would like to share the playlist that Ryuichi has been privately compiling to be played at his own funeral to accompany his passing. He really was with the music until the end.โ€

The 33-track playlist features some of Ryuichi Sakamoto's favorite music, including works by Back, Debussy and Ravel, and begins with an 11-minute piece 'Haloid Xerrox Copy 3 (Paris)' by frequent Sakamoto collaborator Alva I notice.

Ryuichi Sakamoto's 'Funeral' Playlist Coming Shortly After Milan Records released a newly compiled collection of solo works by the late Ryuichi Sakamoto, titled 'Journey'. The album was curated by Oscar-winning Mexican director Alejandro Gonzรกlez Iรฑรกrritu, and the album's title translates to "viaje" in Spanish.

the pioneer composer died on March 28, aged 71 after being diagnosed with colon cancer in 2021 and throat cancer in 2014. In late December of last year, the lauded composer and founder of the Yellow Magic Orchestra played his last showa live-streamed concert titled 'Ryuichi Sakamoto: Playing the Piano 2022'.

Johnny Marr, Massive Attack and the estate of David Bowie were among the artists who headlined tributes to the composer.

After the death of Ryuichi Sakamoto, Daniel Peters wrote about Sakamoto's legacy for NME: โ€œThroughout his career, he tirelessly challenged tradition, innovating in instrumentation, composition, and technology. Over the decades, he remained fascinated with song-pop, testing the form's endurance through different musical methods, even as he clung to his early beloved classical inspirations. After his departure, it is hard to imagine that there will ever be another like Ryuichi Sakamoto.
