Market impact data on gambling behaviour โ€“ operator data to Sept 2023

October 31, 2023

The Gambling Commission has published more data on the gambling industry in Great Britain.

This data, sourced from operators, reflects the period from March 2020 to September 2023, inclusive, and covers online and in-person gambling and covers licensed betting operators (LBOs) located on high streets From great britain.

A comparison should not be made with the industry statistics data set, as this data set may include free bets and bonuses and does not include data from all operators.

This release compares the second quarter (Q2) of the financial year 2022 to 2023, with the second quarter of 2023 to 2024, and analyzes how the market has changed in comparative periods over a year.

Note: This dataset includes revised data on slot sessions. We recommend that you consult the Excel data document that contains updated data for the entire period. This can be found at Gambling business data on gambling until September 2023 (published in October 2023)

Note to editors

1 We are currently investigating the categorization of certain products. This may result in some data shifting between verticals; however, this should have no impact on the overall totals.

2 This is the total number of times activity has occurred across all verticals; therefore, an active account may be counted more than once if it participates in more than one vertical. Additionally, a quarterly comparison means that there is a greater degree of double counting in the data for active accounts. For example, if an account has been active in two of the three months of that quarter, it will be counted twice in that quarter's total. This only applies to active accounts and not any of the other data points.
