The Council vote on the issue was 8-1 in favor. Councilwoman Julie Harwig-Smith, R-Ward 5, was the only dissenting vote.

"If (Bitdeer) can achieve this without negative impact (noise and water), then I will be the first to congratulate them," Harwig-Smith said before the vote.

The Bitdeer company has purchased property in southwest Massillon for an expansion project that aims to create 70 jobs in the area.

The company purchased the property along the west side of Ninth Street SW, between Industrial Avenue SW and Albrecht Street SW, for approximately $1.6 million. The plans involve the construction of two warehouses, an office and 26 database buildings.

The replat allows for the relocation of sanitary and stormwater easements to accommodate construction, as well as the combining of lots.

โ€œMy feeling is that we approved this redo because it puts us in a better position to work with Bitdeer in the future,โ€ Councilman Mike Gregg, R-Ward 3, said before the vote.
