Matt Damon reveals why he appeared in Crypto.com’s most infamous ad

Hollywood star Matt Damon has finally explained why he appeared in the once-relentlessly mocked cryptocurrency exchange Crypto.com's infamous "Fortune Favors the Brave" ad.

Speaking to the Associated Press on March 27 at the premiere of his new movie, Damon seemed a little embarrassed as he explained why he was in the ad. He said it was mainly because his clean water initiative, Water.org, was in dire financial circumstances, explaining:

"We had a bad year at Water.org, and I did that commercial in an attempt to raise money for Water.org."

Damon founded the Clean Water Project in 2009 with engineer and philanthropist Gary White. Its goal is to increase access to clean water around the world by providing small loans that finance the purchase and installation of water taps and toilets.

Damon explained that he had once given his entire salary to Water.org because he was in dire financial straits.

The Hollywood icon went on to say that “Crypto.com found out about that and they gave $1 million dollars to Water.org on their own,” before adding:

“I definitely have a lot of gratitude to them and what they did for our foundation.”

Released in October 2021, the ad starring Damon amidst a digital landscape of historical figures like the Wright brothers and Sir Edmund Hillary. He was featured on billboards and television commercials globally.
