Michelle Mone’s husband says they’ve been treated like ‘punchbag’ in PPE scandal

Michelle Moné'The actress's husband, Doug Barrowman, accused the government of treating the couple like a "punching bag" for The PPE scandal.

In a lengthy statement issued through his wife, Barrowman claimed his family had received death threats and a "torrent of abuse" after allegations surrounding PPE Medpro, the company handed over £200m. Contracts at the height of the Covid pandemic..

Barrowman denied any wrongdoing and stated that PPE Medpro's work was "no different" from that of other suppliers who used the so-called VIP lane.

He claimed that the Government ordered the supply of PPE for "five years" when it should have been for four months and "yet no one has been held to account" at the Department of Health.

"I understand why the British public feels angry, but their anger should not be directed at Michelle or me," Barrowman wrote.

It comes after the couple confirmed their The bank accounts had been frozen this year as part of an investigation by the National Crime Agency (NCA).

The NCA is investigating allegations of conspiracy to defraud, fraud by false representation and bribery in relation to the PPE company Medpro.

Contracts for masks and surgical gowns, worth £203m, were awarded after Baroness Mone lobbied ministers on behalf of the company.

Hospital gowns supplied by the company were deemed unsuitable for use in the NHS and the Government has since taken legal action against the company in addition to the NCA investigation.

PPE Medpro denies the allegation that the gowns were unfit for use.

Baroness Mone initially denied any involvement in the company, but documents were leaked to the guardnorth She later revealed that her husband had been paid £65m from PPE Medpro profits.

The documents also suggested £29 million was transferred to an offshore trust from which Lady Mone could benefit.

In an interview with the BBC last month, Baroness Mone admitted lying to journalists about her connection to PPE Medpro, but argued that "that is not a crime."
