"It will be an honor to be with my colleagues at the kickoff of Black History Month," Johnson said. โ€œI will carry the work of the descendants of the survivors of Clotilda, Africatown, Avenue Cultural Heritage District and that of the entire Mobile community with me to New York.โ€

Johnson, who works in health care and focuses on underserved communities through his work with Philips, said he will remember Thursday the story of the first black runner who rang the bell in February 1970.
