MTA looks to add retail and dining to Grand Central Madison

The MTA has released a request for proposals seeking a developer to bring shopping and restaurants to Grand Central Madison, officials said Tuesday.

The agency has been trying to recruit companies to fill the concourse of the Long Island Rail Road terminal in midtown Manhattan.

The Grand Central Madison space will feature shops and restaurants separate from the Grand Central Terminal shops run by the MTA's other commuter railroad, Metro-North.

"We really want to increase the convenience and excitement of these facilities with innovative shops, restaurants and brands, like the ones we've had quite a bit of success with upstairs," MTA President and CEO Janno Lieber said at a conference of press. "Grand Central Terminal, formerly Grand Central, is in many ways the model."

This January marked one year since the MTA opened Grand Central Madison, giving Long Island Rail Road riders direct access to the east side of Manhattan.
