Next round of public engagement begins for proposed Burnaby Mountain Gondola

Members of the SFU community are invited to share their feedback on the proposed Burnaby Mountain gondola and learn more about the updated route, terminal design, customer use, and terms of reference for an environmental review.

The Burnaby Mountain Gondola is part of the Mayors Council's Access for All 10-Year Plan. This last phase of participation is part of the advancement of the commercial planning stage of the project. A cost-effective, environmentally friendly and safe transit solution, the gondola will move people quickly and reliably along one of the busiest and fastest-growing corridors in the Lower Mainland.

Since November 6th at 19thPeople can learn more about the future of this exciting transportation project and share feedback through an online survey at translink.ca/gondola.

Additionally, starting November 14th at 19th, an information kiosk, complete with a gondola cabin, will be on display at Lougheed Shopping Centre. The exhibition will be open Monday to Friday from 3 to 7 pm and from noon to 4 pm on weekends.

The proposed Burnaby Mountain Gondola will provide a straight-line route between SkyTrain (Production Way-University Station) and SFU's Burnaby campus. This will result in shorter journey times, more frequent trips, increased passenger numbers, reduced noise and emissions, and increased reliability in winter.

It is estimated that 25,000 trips are made up and down Burnaby Mountain daily. A gondola can transport more people per hour than other forms of transportation, with lower carbon emissions and lower operating costs than buses.
