NFF technical committee meets over new Super Eagles coach โ€“ Score Nigeria

SCORENigeria has especially learned that the NFF technical committee will meet on Tuesday in Abuja to decide the new coach of the Super Eagles.

As first reported, last month the committee shortlisted seven coaches for consideration by the NFF Executive Committee.

It was learned that among the shortlisted coaches were Finidi George and Emmanuel Amuneke.

Finidi has since led the country's team on an interim basis to Morocco, where they beat Ghana 2-1 and lost 2-0 to Mali in friendlies last month.

Former NFF president Amaju Pinnick has since supported Finidi to succeed Josรฉ Peseiro, whom he helped at the recent AFCON in Ivory Coast.

Domenec Torrent, long-time assistant to Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola, as well as former Cameroon coach Sergio Conceicao are among more than 40 foreign coaches who have applied for the top job.

This comes at a time when opinion is sharply divided on whether the NFF should hire a local or foreign coach.

The new coach's immediate task will be the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against South Africa in Uyo and Benin, possibly in Ivory Coast, between June 3 and 11.

Nigeria is third in its 2026 World Cup qualifying group after drawing with Lesotho and Zimbabwe in November.

South Africa are second with three points, while Benin, now under former Eagles coach Gernot Rohr, have one point.
