Niagara Falls City Council approves settlement with cryptocurrency mining company

NIAGARA FALLS, New York โ€” The Niagara Falls City Hall has voted to approve a deal with a cryptocurrency mining company, meaning a facility on Buffalo Avenue will be able to start operating once again.

The council says the agreement with US Data Technologies Group and US Data Mining Group includes strict terms to limit noise. The company must also work with a third party to monitor that noise and pay $150,000 in fees.

โ€œThey're going to pay us to have someone come in and monitor the decibels coming out of the place,โ€ said Niagara Falls City Councilman Kenny Tompkins.

โ€œThey are putting up a wall, a sound barrier wall. We have established that if we receive complaints and it exceeds 65 decibels, they have adequate hours to correct it. If they don't correct, they have a link, and we can get rid of that link immediately."

That eight-hour correction will only start if the noise from the cryptocurrency mining plant exceeds 65 decibels at the plant property boundary.
