Having made a ton of money selling graphics processors to miners of cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum, Nvidia now says that cryptocurrencies are useless to society. Instead of wasting GPU computing power for mining, it can be used to run various AI applications such as intelligent chatbots.
"All these cryptographic things, they needed parallel processing, and [Nvidia] is the best, so people just programmed it to use it for this purpose," said Michael Kagan, Nvidia's chief technology officer, in an interview with The Guardian (through VideoCardz). "They bought a lot of things and eventually collapsed, because they don't bring anything useful to society. AI does," Kagan told The Guardian.
