Our Yorkshire Farm: Amanda Owen watches the floodwaters wreak havoc

Amanda Owen has shared her concerns as Ravenseat Farm was threatened by rising floodwaters as well as being hit by high winds.

The 46-year-old star of the Channel 5 documentary series Our Yorkshire Farm spoke about her fears that her family home could feel the force of a wild storm that had swept across the nearby river in a raging torrent.

The Yorkshire shepherd also revealed that the storm had damaged vital pieces of famine equipment, which were essential to keep her operation running at full capacity.

Amanda, who shares nine children with her husband Clive, 66, spoke about the tense times they faced when the nearby river threatened to overflow just yards from their home.

Speaking on a recent episode of the show, Amanda said, "At this time of year, you expect it to be cold, snow, ice, ice and you can deal with that.

"But the water just can't. The soil is absolutely saturated, so river levels go up and down very fast.

"You have extreme weather conditions, that's what happens here."

Amanda was concerned that the area was subjected to a month of rain in one night, which caused some places to be flooded and an excess of water ran into the river next to the farmhouse, which was already at its limit.

Standing by the floodwaters, Amanda described how they battled the conditions brought on by Storm Ciara.

Amanda said, "What a day. Incredible.

"The power in that water. Actually, it's not even safe to be here."

To add to the concerns shared by the family, Amanda's husband, Clive, and their eldest son, Reuben, had to go on a rescue mission as the weather threatened their flock of sheep.

With 100 mph winds, the pair braved the elements to head their sheep to safety when the weather threatened their existence.

Once the animals were secured and given enough food to withstand the extreme weather, the Owens had more trouble to overcome.

The storm was not done with them yet and flood water was seen running through the farm yard, taking their one-ton trailer with it.

Once the storm passed, Reuben was seen joining a local farmer as they retrieved the towed trailer from a ditch.
