waitress is encouraging shoppers to pair blue cheese with their ice cream this summer for a sophisticated twist on a classic.
One of the supermarket's top innovation chefs has revealed that one of his favorite ways to 'elevate' his frozen is to crumble a little Stilton on top and wash it down with a glass of port.
Will Torrent, Senior Innovation Chef at Waitrose, said: โOur luxurious, award-winning Number 1 Cornish Salted Caramel Brittle ice cream is brilliant on its own, but I'm looking to take it a step further.
"Try crumbling our smooth and tangy No.1 Colston Bassett Blue Stilton cheese and pair it with a glass of fruity No.1 Reserve Tawny Port for a combination that adds a rich, sharp character that's incredible."
'Experience with flavour'
For those who want to experiment with more savory ice cream flavors, the chef also suggested pairing simple vanilla ice cream with a drizzle of olive oil and a little sea salt.
"Our delicious number one Madagascar vanilla ice cream works as a brilliant base for flavor experimentation," he said.
"Try adding a splash of our fragrant No. 1 Valli Trapanesi Extra Virgin Olive Oil and a pinch of our Cooks' Ingredients Anglesey Sea Salt for a combination that adds a bright, tangy flavor to the dessert."
Torrent added, "Ice cream is delicious on its own, but I always find new ways to make my servings even more interesting, whether it's with some fun toppings or a crazy combination."
And Stilton is not the only cheese pairing that Torrent recommends with the frozen dessert.
