Park for a pound at Western Approach this Christmas

Late night shoppers will be able to use Plymouth's Western Approach car park for just £1 from 3pm before Christmas.

City Hall is offering discounted parking every Thursday night to encourage families to head downtown straight from school, stock up on Christmas gifts and join in the festive fun and entertainment.

The agreement will begin on Thursday, November 16, coinciding with the switching on of the city's Christmas lights in the Armada Way plaza, which will begin at 4:00 p.m.

Councilor Mark Coker, Cabinet Member for Strategic Planning and Transport, said: "We are very pleased to be offering this great offer in the run up to Christmas to help those struggling with the cost of living crisis, as well as to encourage more buyers. and visitors to support town center businesses, particularly our smaller independent traders.

Steve Hughes, chief executive of City Center Company, said: “We are delighted with this offer which will be a great help to our businesses. We expect shoppers to return to the high street for the majority of their Christmas shopping this year to support local businesses.

“Thanks to some UK Shared Prosperity funding, our Christmas market this year will have live entertainment every day and we want people to come and enjoy the experience rather than staying at home and shopping online.”

The Western Approach car park payment system will also change to 'pay on arrival' on Thursday 16 November. This is the system that shoppers and visitors will already be familiar with in other city center car parks, where you pay at the machines after parking, on your way into the city centre.

There is no ticket to show and you can top up your parking through RingGo, if you need to stay longer. RingGo can also be used to purchase parking for a week or a month. The new system will also accept Apple Pay, Android Pay and contactless payments.
